How long should I have my car before selling and buying another one?

What do people usually do? I bought a brand new $18,000 car just over 2 years ago and it's only done approx 12,500 miles. Should I stick with it until it basically dies? I have no problem with it. It's a great car, but like anyone else I love something new lol.
