Christians ONLY: Why did Jesus say this?

Jesus did not make the laws of the old testament obsolete. I dont know how people get that interpretation. That was more of an idea of Paul as he converted gentiles who he knew would not tolerate many of the old laws. according to the gospels Jesus clarifies that the laws of moses are not sufficient by themselves and it is more important to have the right intention. But they are still valid, of course. It is the same god, after all.
